Vibration at. “2000 rpm in neutral or moving

My TR6

I have a 1973 TR six with a 1962 Oldsmobile aluminum V-8
Does Anyone have an idea what it might be,I am leaning towards the fly wheel might not be balanced

I Had the engine rebuilt, car runs GREAT. Not only was the Harmonic Balancer out of balance , the Flywheel was out of balance by almost an ounce.
My engine builder balanced everything before it went back together

Is this a new problem?

Is it actually a vibration you can feel, or just a noise?

When the engine is running, with a stethoscope or a long screwdriver, can you determine whether it's at the back of the engine or the front?

Auto or manual?

My TR6

I had my mechanic look at it, we found the driveshaft was loose and tightened it and he drove it some more and we still had an engine vibration, he pulled over left it in neutral, it has a five speed mustang transmission and in neutral it still had that vibration
I recently purchased a car and talked to the gentleman that built it and he said he put. In a new fly wheel but he did not check to see if it was balanced
I am stumped All the engine parts come from D & D Fabrication in Michigan

So you can feel it, not just hear it.

Some things I'd look at:

Soft engine or trans mounts, especially if oil is leaking onto them.
Exhaust hitting against something.
Exhaust resonance.
Engine firing order wrong.
Not firing on one cylinder.
Harmonic damper (front pulley) loose.
Flywheel loose.
Clutch cover loose.
Or pretty much anything loose that has a vibration frequency which equates to 2000rpm.

Vibrations and resonance can be a right pain.

The flywheel should be good to go as purchased.  The engine is internally balanced.  Though, if not torqued properly...

If you are using an original harmonic balancer/damper, it is very old.  Check the condition of the elastomer.

Yes, one thinks of them as permanent, but eventually the elastic centre debonds and impairs the damping.
That happened with my TR6, detected when it became apparent that the timing marks were out. Didn't cause a vibration in my case, but it could.

I don't know what you have done so far in your trouble shooting but I would start with unhooking the fan belts. Just to eliminate the easy stuff first. I had a vibration a while back like yours, it was there going down the road or just sitting there. Turned out the alternator was the problem. Just a thought. Good luck brother

I had the engine rebuilt, Had bad harmonic balancer, flywheel was out.
 the engine builder did a great job.
 5000 rpm's in second gear what a fun car to drive.
after all this I think I might sell it.
