2017 MGB Coast‐to‐Coast Adventure
Put a tire in the Atlantic and tire in Pacific at the beginning and end of a historic MGB road trip of 9 days taking us across the southern United States to NAMGBR's MG2017. Our tentative plans include using a southern route of secondary roads and some high speed interstates. Of course MG fans across the nation can join in anywhere. This plan has a couple short days for touring local sights. These short days also allow for catch up if anyone was delayed for unscheduled
repairs. Our model is the Rally to Reno in 2011, but with a more southern/southwestern flair.
Starting Point – Savannah, GA, Friday, 6/16/2017
The City of Savannah is a place with so much history it is too much to list. This city was spared by General Sherman at the end of the Civil War during his famous "March to the Sea," so the beautiful antebellum homes fill the streets just as they did in the late 1800s. In addition, the Eighth Air Force Museum, probably the best air museum outside of Wright Patterson AFB or the Smithsonian Air Museum, chronicles the U.S. Air Force's roll in defeating Nazi Germany during WWII. Our tentative Friday itinerary includes:
Dinner and put a tire in the Atlantic on Tybee Island photo opportunity meet us on Tybee Island around 6:00 pm the North Beach bar & Grill, 1501 Chatham Ave., Tybee Island, GA.  31328.
then on Sat morning 7:00 am departure for Montgomery, AL

Hampton Inn & Suites Savannah I-95
591 Al Henderson Blvd
Savannah, GA 39141

and some of us are next door at Fairfield Inn by Marriott.

Might have to argue with you on that, PJ  ;)  I have been to The Smithsonian & National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton with the Boy Scouts.  The National Museum Of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL is right up there.  I have been there 3-4 times. Not to be missed.

Enjoy your adventure, PJ!

I'm having some technical difficulties, but even more than that I'm spending nearly all my waking hours having an absolute ball talking with, riding with, eating with, or just being with all these fun folks here in San Diego at MG 2017 that I've neglected to post here,

Mea Culpa Mea Culpa, Mea maxima culpa.

I'm about to fall asleep but I will catch up soon

As one of the 2017 MGB coast to coast adventurers, I can tell you that the 11 MGs in our group drove thousands of miles in HOT weather, specifically 5 straight day in excess of 100F up to 118F.
sure the cars were hot, so were the drivers
(see photo of the two of us in "silver Lady" I'm cooling with a wet Froggie head wrap)
and passengers, but not one of us had to call 911 nor did the MGs blow a hose.

( IMHO this is a sure sign that the car is overheating, a blown hose)

We did have coolant temp for short periods of hill climbing of 220-230 But all these MGs made it to San Diego and all made it home to Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte and other points east of the Mississippi. Oh and one of the mostly stock MGBs as pulling half an MGB trailer that weighed about 7-800 lbs empty.

I drive my MGBGT cross country frequently , over 80,000 miles since 2010 in all kinds of weather, once the cooling system is in good nick, these cars will go and go. yes, keep an eye on temps but don't obsess about 200+degreesF or more.
I once drove all day at 80 mph when ambient temps were 107 in CO & KS with no harm done the coolant was consistently at 210F.
If the system is intact, i.e. no hose blown, you'll probably keep on trucking..

good luck with your MG and have fun driving many blissful miles.
