Bill Guzman's 4 Link

I recently installed Bill's 4 link suspension system.  It is working as advertized, however, I'm wondering if anyone has played with the adjustment on the QA1 shocks.  They came adjusted to the F(Firm) setting and I didn't change them.
Has anyone tried the Regular or Xfirm settings?  Your observations?

I just ordered this setup for my 71 GT.
Can you give me advice on assembly or setup that may help?
Are you using the stock rearend?
Now that you have run it for a while, did you end up changing the settings from firm?

Jim:
I haven't changed the settings from Firm to Regular but may do it over the winter to try it in the spring.  Bill advised that the Firm setting best mimmicks the ride of the standard B leaf spring ride.
I'm using a narrowed Ford Ranger rear end with a 3:45 ratio and it is working well.  No particular advice.....Bill's instructions are very comprehensive.  Pay particular attention to getting the bushings well lubed, I have one that has developed an annoying squeak.

Hey Phil, Did you do the other short axle trick to narrow the Ranger rear? How do you like the 3.45 ratio with the T5 2.95 first and .63 fifth?

I did use the other short axle trick and am pleased with the result.  Had a horrible time getting the long tube out of the centre section though.  Had to resort to some unusual measures.  Ended up cutting the tube off and machining the reminants of the tube out of the centre section on a vertical mill.  Great to have friends with all the toys!  :-)

Wow Phil, I always cut the other end to shorten because I change ends to eliminate the C clips. There is a guy on the web that drills out the factory welds and uses a hydraulic tubing bender as a puller. Do you think the ratios worked out OK with the 3.45? I'll quit hijacking this thread so you can do another on the rear end swap!

I'm happy with the change in ratios.  Dropped the cruising RPM's a few hundred revs and the car seems a bit quieter going down the road.

My "friend with all the toys" has been a very good friend for over twenty-five plus years.  When he does things for me, sometimes money changes hands when I can convince him to take it.  Other times it is just buying him lunch or dinner or doing work for him when he is busy and it is something that I am competent in doing, whether it is helping to put on a new roof, powercoating something, sandblasting, some ceramic coating, making a simple part on the lathe, some basic body work or doing a brake job. We are both long since retired and most of the time projects are done at a leisurely pace.  I know my friend does not feel used by me.
ps  The rear end narrowing and 4 link job was done over a two and a half month period as time was available......last winter here in the great white north.  :-)

Hi Phil,

Glad to see you are still having fun improving your car!

When I fitted Bill's wonderful 4-link I switched to different coil-overs. I wanted them to be easily adjustable.
Since I have used a Hoyle coil-over front suspension with GAZ shocks, I decided to go with the GAZ coil-overs on the rear.
I like the resulting ride and adjustability.

Hello Martyn:
I still remember my first look at an MGB conversion in your garage many years ago.  It took about ten years before I had one on the road but am enjoying it immensely.
Happy with my four link after I worked out a couple of issues.  I may change the shock setting over the winter though.
Planning on going to Indy this year.  Hope to see you there.

I now have Bill's setup in my B. I installed it with Camaro  diff., had it shortened and limited slip installed. I like so far. Agree with the comment about Bill's instructions.
