Hey All,

A question of experience and preference to the experienced conversion folks:
Right now I can buy a rust free SC '79 MGB rolling chassis for $500 or a complete '73 MGB with good interior, good body, drivetrain, etc. for $2800. Both local. I'll be putting a Rover 4.0L V8 in it. What would you do?

My first inclination was to get both and use the best of both worlds, my wife said I'd be doing the work twice. She makes a lot of sense so I tend to listen to her. Get the '73 and not have to deal with lowering and CB conversion? Both time consuming and costly . . .

Cheers,
Tim

IMO, buy the best condition MGB you can, then just stick a bigger engine in it.

+1 on buying based on condition.

If condition really is the same, I'd prefer the '73.

They both sound like bargains.

Rust free = priceless! Even good is a plus!

Thanks! I'm leaning towards the '73. I know it'll be a little more work but that's half the fun.

Thanks guys! I bought the '73, it runs, I could drive it home but I won't. No rust, aluminum hood, interior is not as good as I thought but okay. Top and rubber window trim is shot. I think this car spent a good part of its life in a garage because the top is original but, it has some tears in it from sitting outside in the seller's driveway for 5 years and the overhanging tree dropped branches and dead wood on it. It did start and run but the gauges don't work so I'll trailer it.

I appreciate your input. You all are great.
