14cux rover efi check engine light

Hey guys, how many of you have the check engine light wired into your car? I have my mgb all wired up and have the code reader and wanted to wire up the check engine light also but cant seem to get it to work, I pulled the air flow meter to trip a code and the code reader verified but the check engine light still wont come on. I used pin 10 and even though it was supposed to be a black and yellow wire it was a red and slate wire and I cant find a black and yellow wire in my harness at all. I have verified the bulb im using works.....any suggestions are appreciated.
