Curtis, I'm prejudiced towards the production type cars such as the Sunbeam Tiger and such as I usually find more there that might translate into my street Midget. All are interesting of course. My second tier would be the older cars such as the Cooper F2 that we saw in Danville that you featured recently.

Curtis and Bill Young,

Guys,

The most spectacular performance over the last 15 years in the effort to demonstrate the superiority of British V8 race cars has been the consistent finishes and wins of Tom Patton with his Sunbeam Tiger in the SCCA GT2 class.

Year after year year, Tom Patton from Ohio has been the only real British V8 racer who has challenged  the ultimate prize in British V8 USA racing.

Please give him some credit.

keep them on the track

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree that a Sunbeam article should be top priority and I've reconnected with the owner of the one I photographed with a laundry list of questions. Phil, as soon as I have a chance to photograph Tom Patton's Tiger I'll start working on that one too. It would be great to compare Patton's GT2 Tiger with Mr Byrd's B-production Tiger. Alan, I'm also attempting to get details on the Wolseley. It is, of course, basically a Mini underneath the skin. I'm very conspicuously under-representing Minis at this time and I'm keen to correct that.  Of course the most important thing is that I find time to complete and publish articles. What good are photos that nobody gets to see?

Last weekend I flew east to attend a wedding in Charlottesville... so since I was in the area I dropped in for two half days as a spectator at VDCA's and VRG's "Wild Hare Run" at Virginia International Raceway. I've updated the list above with four nice additions: the Tornado Thunderbolt (Triumph powered), a very rare Elva MkII (Climax powered), a very handsome TVR 2200 (Triumph powered), and a Titan Mk4b (Formula Ford circa '72).

For the fun of it, here are some previews

Geoff Byrd's Tiger

Dick Thomas' Wolseley

Bob Wismer's Tornado

Fred Burke's Elva

Dennis DeLaps's TVR

I'll bump this back up in an attempt to get more votes... not that previous votes/comments haven't been noted, but sometimes articles get delayed due to circumstances beyond my control. I'm just back from Lime Rock and Watkins Glen, so I've added a number of cars to the list above from those weekends.

(Note: the McLaren M23, is Denny Hulme's Formula One car circa 1973!!!)

Lest we "forget" the period-formidable, Jensen Healey ? You know, SCCA, D Production Champion, 73-74' ? For your consideration, Please ?  roverman.

I'd love to learn more about Jensen-Healeys, but I haven't yet found one to photograph. (Are the ex-Huffaker Jensen-Healeys still intact and racing somewhere?)  Phil previously mentioned Tom Patton's GT2 Tiger. I believe it just finished second at this year's SCCA runoffs! Truly a fantastic result. I wish I could have been there to see and photograph it.

Curtis, I think the way you've been doing it works well. mixing the production style race cars with  the bespoke race cars
fleshes out the interest level for everyone.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I think I might be able to move a Sunbeam article up very near the top of the queue. The one I've photographed is a nice car that I found at this year's "Mitty" but unfortunately it broke during practice and didn't actually race all weekend - and since I never saw it on the pre-grid, I didn't get any shots of the bodywork. Maybe I'll get a better Tiger photo set at Watkins Glen next month.

Today I've made a lot of progress on an article about a Lotus 15, and I hope to publish it later this week. After that, I'm not so sure what's next. I think Triumphs are a little under-represented, so maybe it's time for a TR6.  I've discovered that Dan Gurney's Lola T70 Can-Am car is garaged within a mile of my home - so I feel motivated to write about it soon even though I've already done a T70 article.

Also, I'm very keen to write about some newer racecars for a change of pace.

Either of these cars would give me a good excuse to interview my friend in the racecar composites business.

The Reventlo Scarab, georgeous car, and a "few", had the famous 215" Buicks. Maybe ? Thanks, roverman.

I photograph British cars in paddocks, then I research them, then I write about them. The cars listed at the top of this thread have all been through step one and some have been through step two.  I'm trying to figure out which of those cars are highest priority.

Scarabs were made in Venice California by a guy who famously didn't care much for the old countries, right? Even if I did decide to set Mr. Reventlow spinning in his grave by declaring his cars "British enough", before working on a Scarab article I'd like to find one in a paddock. That's a tall order. Are any of them still racing? I doubt it. I figure enough people are already writing about museum pieces but I generally prefer writing about cars that still race.

MGC GTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Closely followed by the 2 McLarens, the 2 Astons, and the Lola T332 F5000 car.

You do such a wonderful job Curtis, and take such wonderfully clear photos, it's a real credit to you. Very well done, and keep up the excellent work.

I like that list, Andrew! They'll be especially fun articles to write, although I'll need a lot of help to do them properly.

The owner of the T332 sat down with me for a full hour interview at Watkins Glen last month. As you might expect, we drifted pretty far afield, but I think I got some fantastic info recorded. I wonder if Brian Redman will give me an interview too...

.I don't know how many Scarabs were built, but I think Troutman Barnes in CA. built all of them.As far as seeing one I believe Augie Pabst has one or more, but I don't know if he races any more, you probably could see one at Elkhart lake during
the Brian Redmond event.

Well, MGC-GTS and TR250K articles have recently been uploaded... so I guess "The Class of 1968" is pretty well represented for the time being.

What next?

I've recently read Ian Wagstaff's wonderful Lotus 72 Owner's Workshop Manual, and it's given me an itch to research and write about some 1970s Formula One cars. March? Ensign? I expect there might be a lot of interest in Lotus 79 or Arrows FA1 articles, but my photo sets on those two aren't as complete as I'd like, so I'll probably sit on those folders awhile and see if I get a chance to take more snapshots.

"And now, Here's somthing totally different"....Ben Blowbys' Nisson/Batmobile ! This car "might" be a revolution, in the making. Curtis, you could "scoop" this ! I know it's not British...but this looks like it could have been -yes ? This could be the first forum , to How It Was Done. There was talk of allowing non-British topics ? 2 cents, Thanks, roverman.
