We  are  breaking   a  stag  rear  end  and  one  side  will not  slip out  to put  new s eal  in . Just  wondering  if  anyone has  done  any work  on a   stag rear  pumkin   and  or  any  thoughts  on a  240  z   retro  fit  for  the  stag  .  http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f246/racetearoffs/?action=view&current=IMG_0435.jpg   ....   350  chevy  tore  it  a  new  one

If you want a diff and axles that will hold up to a Chevy 350, get a BMW series 3 (correct wheel base width) or series5 diff and axles (wider, need more modification).  This will allow you to take the horsepower, gives you limited slip, gives you CV joint axles, and 5 bolt wheels with disk rear brakes.  BMW stuff is more bullet proof and plentiful than older and rare 240 Z stuff.

The whole rear suspension is close enough that it can be adapted probably easier than what it took to chop and slop that 350 into the Stag.

Have a look for ideas at Jonathan Finnis company, Monarch at http://www.monarch-stags.co.uk/
or
Richard Lane's Company, Brighton Stag Specialists at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~stag1/partsdept.html

If the Stag side stub axles do not come out, the bearings or splines may be tweaked from the horsepower.  Use a slide hammer after you remove the 4 bolts.

Ah HAA!!!

After looking at your photos, yes, I understand you you mean about "breaking" a Stag rear end.

You are an "Evil Racer!!"

Okay, if you are going to do that, your front diff extension is called a quill shaft.  That housing tube between the sub frame and the front of the diff breaks at the weld to the tube flange.  Also the quill shaft splines that mate to the differential pinion nose gear will strip out under large horse power application.

It is not designed for all that American torque.

BTW, that Stag looks to be in fairly good shape.  Got more photos??

Definitely look up a BMW 3 series setup.  This eliminates the quill shaft and diff nose extension, plus all the other stuff that will cause you nothing but trouble on the track.

Actually if you want to race a Stag, consider this one ...  http://www.staggering.info/

or this one

http://fastpitstops.com/galleries.htm   my  site  here  has  alot of  stag  fotos  .  I  ran  it  in  last  years   Grassroots  motorsports  challenge  and  pulled  a  13.3 in the  1/4  mile   . The  500  burnouts  since  then  has  spent  the rear   .  Luckily   did   have a  spare  car to  donate a  rear  .  We did  weld  the  quill shaft  at  the  breaking  point  on the  new one  but  I  cannot  get  the   >>oil screw  side  <<  to  let  me  put  new  seals  in it  to  come  loose . I  have  a  call into  Stag  specialists  and  am  waiting  to  hear  back  as  I  would  not  mind  getting  some  new  parts  /used   for the  rear . I have  a  crap  load  of  Datsun s just  have  not  looked  under  them  yet .  I  am  think ing  the turbo  datsun  finned  rear  end  . But  I  wish  I  would  have   just  put  in the  used  rear  end  that  leaked a clittle ,,  it  was  out  of  wire  wheel  car  some  how  much  damage /  burnouts   could  the  original  motor  taken .  .

Where are you located Karl?  That Stag looks like one that was for sale in Ocala Florida a while back.

I have a member in Merritt Island who has, I think, two diffs.

BTW, I can only get to two photos on your site.  What am I missing to locate the others?

Hey  yes  it  was  in  Ocala it  was  owned  by a  guy  in the  printing  business  I  think his  last  name  is  Lewis  .  Goto  www.fastpitstops.com and   click on  Galleries and  then  swoop over the  piks  and  it  should  roll  to  see  more  fotos ,  it  does  take  a  little  bit  of  finess  .   I  have  got  a   call into  stag  specialists   for  a  splined side   shaft   .  How  much  for  a   differential  if  its  available   I  would  like  to  have  a  spare   until  I  figure  out  how   to 240 Z retrofit  .  The guy  that  I  got  it  from  was  super  nice  I  bought  it  on the  spot   , I  had  sold   a  stag  years  earlier  and  regretted  it  but  it  was  rusty  and  original  engine   .  This  car  is   solid   and   I  aint  parting with  it   so   spare  rear  end  might  be  in  order  .   The  pik  swoop over  is  in the  middle  below  the   pisture that   loads  , there  is  couple  piks  of  my  MGA  coupe   and  Meyers  Manx   dune  buggy  , plus  some  other  stuff  . The  Mazda shop is Speed Source  in FT . Lauderdale .

I thought that Stag looked familiar.  So the transmission tunnel is custom fabricated and it has no heater, right?  Yeah, I remember that one, looked to be a really sweet conversion needing some finer touches to make it complete.
So Stag Specialists eh?  Have you purchased parts from Walter before?

I'll get an email or phone call off to my friend to see if he still has the diffs.  If you don't hear from me in a week, remind me again to call him.

Keep you eye out for OE Triumph V8's.  A lot of my members are looking for parts adn whole engines to convert back.

My Goal:  Build and dyno a 300 bhp engine using the original Triumph OHC V8.

Just  got  the  stag  off the  lift  and  was  able  to  drive  it  .  Newly  refurbished rear  end  . Thanks  to  Stag  specialists   they came  thru  with  some  much  needed  parts  .  Will  post  a link  with  photos  soon  .  Heres  some  work  I have  been  doing on  y  MGA   and  a  new  Midget  project  http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f246/racetearoffs/?mediafilter=images              the  midget  >>>>>   http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj134/mariesigns/?mediafilter=images

Cool, but why post links to Photobucket when it's so easy to upload images directly to this site?

We don't have pop-up ads, and it's much easier to caption your photos here.
