Title: Looking for manual transmission and read axle for V8 sprite
Post by: Buttler on October 27, 2026, 03:40:59 AM
Want to buy a narrowed rear axle and manual transmission for my -69 Austin-healey sprite (rover V8).

It already has a rover V8 and automatic transmission with austin's stock rear axle in it.
I just got my car 1 month ago so i am quite new with the subject. Planning on making the swap this winter.

So even if you don't have the parts but you have needed information, please share your knowledge :D

Thank you,
Buttler, Finland

Hi Buttler, this would be in the shared knowledge but no parts category.  For an example of a narrowed rear end in a Sprite, you can scroll down a ways at

One thing I would point out is no matter what heavier duty rear end you choose, your drive shaft will likely be too short to set the pinion and transmission shaft parallel.  The U-joint angles will be too steep.  In my setup, the pinion is sloped up with just a 1 degree angle so the U-joint bearings move, and I have a CV joint in front.  Driveshaft custom made to fit.
  Good luck with the project.

Thank you for the info👍🏼

I happened to find a fitting 6 speed manual (37dz) here in Finland.

Still looking for the rear axle.
