Title: Which MG Sports Car Would You Buy Again?
Post by: jackrobbert on June 19, 2026, 07:42:40 AM
If you had the chance to go back and buy one MG sports car you've owned before, which would it be and why?

Would you choose an MGB, Midget, MGA, RV8, TF, F, or something else?

I'm interested to know whether your choice is based on driving enjoyment, reliability, ease of maintenance, or simply the memories attached to it. Looking back, is there one model you wish you'd never sold?

Would love to hear everyone's experiences and see which MG comes out on top.

The only MG I owned was a CGT. Bought it in 78, ten years old and already rusting. Two years after that it sagged in the middle when the rockers rusted through.

It was a nice cruiser. Overdrive, long legs, a steady 90 mph on the motorway before cameras and the police not much bothered.
The cabin was comfortable, all the controls fell readily to hand. The rear hatch was useful.

To the negative, it didn't go around corners, the engine was gutless below 3000 and thrashy above.

But it had the fabric sunroof, it was my first modern car after a run of pre-wars, and I was happy with it.

That boat anchor of an engine, along with the gearbox, drive shaft and rear axle, all sacrificed themselves in the interests of my continued existence when I totalled it in a 50 mph head-on. The screen stayed in, the doors shut nicely, but it wasn't going anywhere after that.

Would I buy another? Probably not, my bucket list already mismatches my remaining time, but overall I'd say it was a nice car.

I still own all of my MGs, not sure what that says about my sanity! LOL

The one exception was my dad's 78 MGB V8 conversion, I owned it long enough to fix it up for nephew who currently is enjoying it.

Of the three that I own, a 67 MGB roadster, 68 MGC GT, and the 73 MGB V8 conversion. I've had the 67 MGB the longest, bought that car back in 1978.

Today, and in the shape it was in when I last possessed it? Probably still my roadster that I still own (MGB). But the MGBGT-Roadmaster would come a close second. That was a well sorted car. I'm sure Jacob is quite enjoying it.
