Title: Will the stock 1974 TR6 rims will work with tubeless tires??
Post by: 87Buick GN on March 10, 2021, 09:09:36 AM
I have always had tires that required tubes. Now it time to buy new tires and wondering if the stock rims will work with tubeless tires.
Dumb question I know but better than finding out the hard way.
Thanks,
Gary

Yes.
Assuming they're not wires.

Tubes aren't so good nowadays. The inside of the tyre used to be smooooth so it didn't rub the tube. But now nearly all tyres are run tubeless so there's no need for manufacturers to go to the expense of making the inner wall dead smooth.
The tube and tyre rub against each other a little as you're driving, and the high spots on the tyre eventually wear through the tube.

I have tubed wheels on my Land Rover and I've had more punctures on that than all my other cars put together.

Yes, I should change the wheels. It's on the list.
