Has tall main caps, not cross drilled. Small mains. Bosses are cast in block for cross drilling.

Sure it is a great little engine. You can have it cross drilled if you wish. I have read that the bolts must be tightened in the correct order (mains first , then cross bolts, I think).
I don't believe that it is an RV8 engine, though. I believe they 48A for those.
36D one of the last generation of 3.9L blocks, fitted for 9.35 pistons from the factory. They were in Range Rovers From 1988 to 1992. Early ones (I have one) didn't have the bosses in the block but last few ones did. I'd say your engine is likely a 1992 version.
Not sure why they didn't change the prefix number or something else, when they made the casting change, but they didn't.
36D indicates it was originally setup as 9.35 compression, EFI and auto transmission

The RV8 was built in 1993 to Nov 1995. It used a 3.9. So, those block cam a bit later than the 36D.
