I'm sure this has been covered before, but what do we reckon is the best floor or console mount shifter to use with a 3-speed auto?
Currently has awful column shift.

Ivor, I like the early Mustang auto shifter.
i have a lokar in both of my v8 healeys with aod transmissions. location of shifter is very flexible. several shifter s available and first class workmanship!

Story time! When rather young, but curious, I pulled on one of the transmission buttons on my dad's homely '61 Dodge Dart's shift button.
I'm not sure which one, but the button pulled out fairly easily. I then realized it was attached to an arm that did the actual connection to the shift mechanism.
I tried for quite a while to get the button back in, hoping all the while my dad would not show up. What I found, after laying on the floor and looking up, is that the mechanism is not necessarily straight in front of the buttons, and each button has an extension of unusual shape that results in the end being in line with the appropriate attachment on the mechanism. I was able to get the button back without dad finding out, and it was one of many things I never told him!
He's gone now, so I guess I'll never be found out!

Yeah, i remember my dad borrowed his friends old Dodge late 50s early 60s something that had a push button shifter. I thought it was neat. It was during a typical central New York state winter....very cold and lots of snow. We borh commented how unbelievably good the heater was in that car. Another trip down memory lane! ☺

I once tried swapping an early 318 with button shift for a late 318 with tranny. No good. Had to keep the original button shift tranny. So weird.

My favorite has to be the old Chevelle SS horseshoe shifter.

It comes in 2 and 3speed versions, with 4 speed conversions available.
It's a cable shifter so it's easily adapted to whatever you need.
And the detent plate is easily modified for custom uses.

Never had a push-button. They look like fun.
That Chevelle shifter is pretty smart. And 'easily modified' sounds just the ticket.
Judging by the expensive bits and pieces offered on eBay, could be challenging to find a complete one. I'll save the search.

I have the pro matic ratchet shifter in my mgb, love it. when I feel like playing around I don't have to worry about slamming neutral by accident. And if you haven't used one before it acts like theft deterrent.
