9.37 is the compression ratio.

I  think, and I am open to correction here, that 09D indicates an engine from a Discovery with sequential injection.

From what I know the "D" identifies a 94mm cross bolted block.
Which means that you need to figure out the stroke to determine the engine size.
Pretty easy to do really.
Remove a spark plug and insert a thin steel rod or wire to touch the top of the piston.
Turn the engine over by hand and measure the piston stroke directly.
82mm means it's a 4.6
71mm means it's a 3.9/4.0

Live like you mean it.

OR, if the pan is off, crank counterweight will say 4.0 or 4.6. The safer way to buy an RV8 is  with both heads removed, for a close visual inspection of all 8 bores, ( no water stains/etc), and NO distance between top of liners and decks.  Good Luck, Art.

Pretty sure its a 4.6 out of a late Disco 2.  Probably a 2003.  I have a 4.6 from a late 2003 built in the summer of 03 that starts with a 08D.  It has the same 9.37 to 1 CR.

These links point to the 09D being a Rover 4.6L engine.

ECM for 09D 4.6

QuoteI found a 09D 4.6 short on craigslist and carried everything to it.

Over the years my dad had 3 of those SD1s.  All of them still had the 3.5 but I installed cams and 4 barrels in them.  They were a blast to drive.  Interiors fell apart, but they were fun.  There's an 04 disco for sale right down the road from me for $1800.  Seriously thinking about adding it to the fleet for my 17 year old daughter's first car.  P38 Rovers are abundant and cheap around here.  My wife's 01 Range Rover HSE only cost me $1000, and a couple of months after she registered it, someone tapped her rear bumper.  We got $1400 for the "damage".
