Probably best used for parts - front subframe with power rack and power steering pump, TR8 rear, rear trunk lid with rack, headlight buckets, convertible top frame, gauges, etc. Most other body parts are rusty. Interior is not too good either. Rear and subframe are worth about $500 each. Make offer

TR8s had 3.08 and they are highly sought after. Problem is they are hard to ship, therefore hard to sell. I have sold 2 of them over the years and was only able to get $300 and $325 for them. One of them came back to me when I bought the car it was installed in. Most TR8s with a bad 3.08 diff end up installing a 3.45 or a Ford 8.8. 3.45 was found on TR7 convertible 5 speed models. A 3.45 in a stock TR8 is OK, but with a modified engine the 3.45 just feels noisy on the highway. One of the problems with a TR8 on the highway has to do with the engine. When you bump the power and install a cam then mindlessly cruise on the highway, the engine has a way of settling into its sweet spot which is usually around 3K rpms. That puts a TR8 with a 3.08 right around 80mph. Prime speed for getting a ticket. The 3.27 and the 3.63 were only offered in 4 speed rear ends. The 3.08, 3.45, 3.90 were available in 5 speed rear ends. As far as the subframe goes, new ones can be had for $425. A used one is worth $300 but again they are hard to sell. Thats why I have 4 of them hanging from the rafters of my garage.

A rack that is considered a core is probably worth $300. Rebuilds are $300 or more plus shipping both ways unless you buy a $100 kit and do it yourself. Problem with buying a rack is you need all the other pieces that were mounted to the engine. What good is a rack if you don't have the pump, brackets, hoses, and pulleys. Then there is the fact that the lower steering shaft is shorter than the TR7 one because the power rack has a control box on top of the rack where all of the lines come and go. Over the years I have seen several racks sell, but never saw anyone buy the entire power steering system. Had more calls from people looking for the misc pieces than people looking for racks, but I have had calls for both. There are other less obvious pieces on an 8 that are worth money. Battery tray and cable, radiator mounts, fresh air inlets, battery cable rocker panel cover plate, VIN, V8 tach, gas cap, luggage rack, steering wheel core, V8 tranny crossmember, just to name a few.
The front subframe has the power rack attached, along with the pump, brackets, hoses, etc. I probably have the steering shaft as well. The rack does not leak. I'd take $500 for the entire front subframe with rack and pump. I'd rather sell the whole thing.
