I had to cut the aluminum ring off my HB to clear the steering rack in my B. The 215 runs smoothly, but that little bug in my ear just reminded me that I've got a twelve hundred mile trip to Colorado coming up, and bad harmonics wouldn't help. Has the lack of a HB caused problems for anyone? Does anyone make a HB that is five inches in diameter for the 215 Buick?
What is your conversion? Not sure why you would have to do that with a 215. Not a good idea. Aftermarket-wise, I think ATI is it. It will be just over 6" in diameter.
I think the Olds 215 2 barrel motor had a cast iron damper/pulley without the outside ring but I don't know the diameter.
I called the Damper Doctor, and he said that he could fill the groove with a heavy metal and not increase the overall diameter. I wonder how effective fifty year old dampers are anyway. The early V6's didn't use a damper, just a cast iron disc. At what rpm would the torsional vibes occur? Would the accessories on the engine, and transmission type have any effect? Hmmm. Just looked through all of ATI's stuff. They have some shells in the 5.5" range.. Not sure if the Buick hub could be swapped into them or not.. BHJ's and ATI's smallest listed damper for a Buick are 6.35"
