Title: If you must use an automatic...
Post by: roverman on June 02, 2014, 03:12:32 PM
On a 215/RV8, My first choice is the Toy-Borg 3040D. If it has a cable kickdown,(pre-elctronic), it will be easier to swap. This trans is compact, easy to get, and IMHO, is up to the task. Nitrous and a blower, not a good option !  If someone is interested, I have a "pattern, to make belhousings. Curtis, will need to get a percentage, to support "our" cause. Cheers, roverman.

Hey Art. I'm looking ahead a little bit but I'm considering a 3.5 with an automatic for my wifes 68 GT. Currently converting my 77 Roadster using a 1981 SD1 3.5/5 speed. Can you give me a little more info on the Toy-Borg 3040D or point me in the right web direction? Thanks.

I bet Jim Nichols or Fred Key, knows more specifically, about this trans. I have one, and will cast a bell housing to direct fit. One could also adapt a Borg Warner/RV8, type 35/60 auto belhousing, (ring adapter). Using the 3040D with a kickdown cable, negates the need for an electronic controller. This trans is much narrower and smaller in the BH area, than a 200R4 or 7004L Good Luck, roverman..

Art, Your bellhousing may fit the AW4(Jeep) or A340(Toyota) also. It uses shift solenoids and a separate controller and TPS(Jeep). Probably just a modernized version of your Celica trans.
