Title: IRS Axle help
Post by: Remade in Detroit on May 28, 2014, 06:03:36 PM
I called Moss and VB and neither sell the felt gasket for the axle slip joint. It is the part that goes into the screw on cap that keeps the grease on the slip joint on the inside of the rubber gator that keeps the water out. Any ideas??? Material look like felt but it is about 1/4 thick like a washer or gasket.   Help....

Look at Jeep or Scout parts, they have a similar slip joint.

Looks more like cork or something other than felt.

I assume that we're talking about the 1/2 shafts.
The original material was felt, but there is a better solution.
Just go down to your local plumbing shop and pick up some teflon packing cord.
Wrap enough around the axle to fill the space and tighten the nut down to compress the packing.
Works way better than the original.

Cheers
