i have put my stock B to the side, due to the absolute fever, started by my v6 B.
i don't even drive it anymore.
there's just no comparison, even though i bought it that way, it just fueled the fire.
Cool, huh. One is a novelty, you drive on weekend and for show. The other is for all out fun and everyday drivability. I knew once I drove my stock B that it wasn't what a 'sportscar' should be. It didn't pull me back into the seat or spin the tires. Now with the V6, it handles the same, looks the same, almost sounds the same, but Holy Cow!! it can take your breath away.

my wife isn't really fond of being pinned in the seat, when i make mustangs watch me leave them on the road.
mine's geared a bit low, and, just blasts off.
burned one 2 days ago, and the guy followed me to my destination just to find out what i had, and was floored, when he found out.
Ed, just imagine if you had this opportunity 5-10 years ago. That's a lot of seat time you will not be able to recoup. Now us V8 guys, we just grin and drive on :-)

thanks to autozone buying some land from me, that made things a bit different, and here i am.
still want a v8, but pretty happy with what i have.

5-10 years? I should have had mine 50 years ago!
My car was still a 4 cyl. in 2003, but we spent the off time until june 2005 with the conversion. Made the Terre Haute meet and NEVER regretted.

i will, most likely, "trade up", so to speak, to a v8, in the future.
gonna sell the 76 i have, to recoup some of the v6 investment, and will be hunting a bit harder, after that.
i've had my eye on one, for a while, now, but, just waiting for the right time.
i'm already about 15 grand into this hobby, but selling off extra stuff, that i don't need, anymore, and, it's slowly coming down.
i'm in no hurry, it will come.
The first swap that I did on an MGB was in 1973 when I took a 215 from a Skylark with a 3 speed trans and 2v carb.
It was a big job. Now wishing the GM V6 existed in those days. Then came my GT with a Ford V6 2.8 much better than the 215 (for me) it became a full race car etc and now is near completion with a GM 3.4 V6 supercharged.
Since 2000 I have been driving an MG with a GM V6 and that is what started Classic Conversions.
I still look for the long way home or destination.
I drive my B to pick up supplies for CCE and some car shows.
My B now is only an MGB shell with MG rack and dash, everything else has been replaced or modified, mostly replaced.
i'm really happy with mine, and, still looking for a set of headers, hoping you will have a used set, soon . i have a friend that says he can get the stock manifolds, but, nothing yet.
hope to find something by fall, so i can redo the exhaust better. cracked homemade headers, and a straight "T" tying the 2 sides together. the rest is fine.
that still doesn't take away from the fun, though.

Here ia a nice one nearly completed fuel injected, 3.4 V-6 engine swap into a MG by Ken Nicks for a client near Charlotte, NC. Nicely color coordinated.

i'm gonna dress up the one i bought, and do a few things like that, too, but, it's my busy time, so, i'm collecting up the necessary parts i'll need, when the time comes.
hope to have the 76 sold, soon. i have a couple of seriously interested buyers, and had it trapped up on the side porch of my shop, while having crushed concrete brought in. finally have it to where i can get to it, so, now, they can actually drive it.
Everyone dressing up their engine I thought I would also.

I know you're enjoying your new car but public streets are no place to act like an idiot. If you want to race, take it to the track. The reason your wife was quiet was probably because she's the smart one and knows better.

You're absolutely right. But, if he accelerated slowly and never exceeded the speed limit "between the lights", how could you classify that as "busting some more Mustangs"? BTW, any contest of speed, whether you exceed the speed limit or not, is considered reckless driving.

i normally let them start to see where it goes, and just show enough to let them know it's not stock.
they tend to be surprised to see it i guess, military town, you know how that goes, with some of the younger generation.
i just enjoy seeing their eyes get wide, and their mouth drop... i assess the situation, and location, before showing my but, used to race a little, on the track, and you're right, shouldn't do it, but it is fun, once in a while.
I completely understand and I did my share of street racing in the 70's but that was long ago. The last car I built, my Cobra, ran 10.80's @ 128 MPH in street trim and it's tempting to show the young "ricers" what it's really all about when they pull up next to you rev their "fart tip exhaust". On the other side of the coin, I spent 30+ years as a firefighter extricating bodies from cars driving by racers, drunks etc. It's better to just give those guy's the " Don't F--K with me" look and drive off like an old lady. If you know what your car can do, then there's no need to prove anything to anyone else.
That's all true, but sometimes you just need to be in the other lane...
i used to do the car audio kids that way some, too. just playing with them a little bit.
i think they get a kick out of seeing an old guy run with "the new breed". it's all in fun, and wouldn't intensionally endanger anyone.
In all the years driving at the MG/British V8 events we never, ever saw a speed limit sign on an on ramp. Apparently the on ramps have no speed limit. ;)
aren't they ACCELERATION RAMPS, as in, BLAST OFF?
You know you're doing it right when you have to slow down once you merge. :)
There is nothing I love more than entering a freeway going 25 mph slower than the traffic because the car in front of me won't accelerate!

yea, i tend to go in running just a bit faster, then come down to blending in speed.

You know what I enjoy? Being in an underpowered car like my wife's old SOHC Saturn 4 door saloon and having some absolute bone headed idiot in front of me on the on-ramp with a big engine and no idea how to accelerate Until they get to the absolute End of the ramp where there is no time Nor power left in your eco-box to merge safely into traffic. They take off like this at the very end of the ramp and you are left to hopefully not get obliterated by the other vehicles just obeying traffic laws. More powerful engines in the hands of those who don't know such as the ones I described above are far more dangerous than power in the hands of someone who has trained themselves to use it wisely.
When these people do this in front of the MGBV6, I have no issues. Matter fact, its really fun pulling around them and then matching their speed in front of them before taking off- Nothing illegal or dangerous, just hold their at a safe distance in front reminding them to wake up and quit using the "ON ramp" as the location to -put ON their make-up or put the cell phone ON their ear or turn the radio ON...

it's also kinda fun to see those power houses do their little last minute take off, and see you glued to them, just waiting for them to get out of the way, even though, i never go around them. it's fun to see their heads bob around looking in the mirror, wondering how in the world you were able to stay right with them.
Reminds me of 'the look' on the Miata owners left sitting at the light. Gets me smiling for hours.

Share a story; a S2000 that looked and sounded very nice!! took of from the stop light perhaps to show me how quick his S2000 was.
At the next light I was ready for him and stayed in front not by much but in front of him, I turn into the parking lot to get a cup of coffee at Starbucks, he follow me, then asked me what did I have under the hood (I guess he did not read my lic plate MG V6) I told him that it was stock MGB. I will never forget his face.
Yes told him later what I had 3.4 V6 Supercharged, actually I could have gone to a full length so that he could see my lic plate, but just in front is good enough, you never show everything, need to keep a reserve :-)
