Title: What if, Quad valve RV8 ? Not BMW

Suppose it DID happen, in 4-5L. form ?  What class could it road race in ? Vintage something ? Does it truly belong in a Jensen Healey or a Jensen GT ?  5L should make 500 hp., no problem, with suitable road course torque/hp band. Four, 44mm IDF's-or ?  Please share your skilled thoughts.Thanks, roverman.

A LOT needs to happen, for this build to be, successful. But... if it is, why not in a Jensen Healey ?  The cam covers are already correct, only twice as many of them ? It would be lighter than a 6.1L hemi, with comparable power. All hail the mighty B cam(s) !

Repco has done this in at least 3.0L, 4.2L, 4.3L and 5.0L

Todd and clan, to clarify, using oem Lotus heads on the RV8, is a viable solution vs mostly impossible, obtaining  Repco V8 variants. This is a project of love/challenge, and blissfully free, of common sense. Where one to ask Fred Key, Pete Aardema and to a small extent,(just getting started), myself," how much per hour will you make" ?, Who's counting ?  Cheers, roverman.

However, your original question was "how it should be classified for racing".  And my reply isn't simply smartass, it may be applicable to your subject.

What were those Repco OHC 5.0L cars classified as?

My sources tell me that around the time the BL/Rover O series SOHC engine that was being converted to DOHC 4 valve to make the M series engine there was a project to do something similar with the Rover V8. Unfortunately I don't know much about it. I am told that in those days they had some good design engineers but not enough money to put all the ideas into production so there was quite a lot of what they called shelf engineering going on. The O series was itself an adaptation of the OHV B series engine.

Wildcat Engineering has a 6 + litre with 4 inch bore, and big valve heads. or take a 300 Buick out to 350 cubes with 340/350 crank 3.850 inches in 3.80 bore use 300 aluminum heads with big valves for light weight.  But BADASS is best with 455 block.

Yes, the MG-Roadmaster uses the TA-Performance Street Eliminator heads for fenderwell clearance on the 455 with tubing log exhausts. Requires some body mods but not as much as you might think. Relocated steering is helpful for lowering the engine but requires lower control arm mods. Front frame rail mods allow a 32 x17" radiator. Same mods are needed to fit the Buick 340 or 350. Alloy heads are available for the 340 and will soon be available for the 350 from TA.

Best bang for the buck? Either the 300 or the stroked 300/350. The 455 really is overkill but with a mild build is amazingly docile yet powerful.

I know of no class in SCCA racing that would allow the Quad Valve RV8 cylinder heads.

Intriguing ideal and I'll go right to my latest GCR to see if there is a variant in one of the National classes.

Now I think it might pass muster in one of the many Solo classes.
