Just read an article about the F1 cars used in the new movie Rush. A few of the replicas were powered by Rover V8s! I thought that was really neat! I hope I or someone can find out more and post it!
Probably the crash / rough usage cars were rebuilt chassis with the period bodywork and the rover power. Looking at the pictures I think they used a lot of restored cars/owners for fill in , as they seemed to have the DFV cosworth engines but there was a couple pics with ohv engines.I'll bet the owners of the real F-I cars were paid handsomely !!

QuoteThe film features a fabulous array of real cars, with two McLaren M23s, two Ferraris (312T and 312T2), two Lotus 77s and two six-wheel Tyrrells—converted from 1977-spec to 1976 with replica bodywork—among the star performers. Most other marques of the era were also represented by at least one example.
The producers could not source some key cars, so Howard's team commissioned Ligier-Matra and Brabham-Alfa replicas with Rover V8 engines. Two 1973 BRM P160s were created for early scenes depicting Niki Lauda's spell with the team.
