Title: Cherrybombs
Post by: 88v8 on February 17, 2014, 02:41:14 PM
Silly question perhaps... my 74 Landrover Lightweight has a transplanted Rover 215. Last week the back of the exhaust parted company over a speed hump. That included the one and only silencer.

As a temporary fix I put a piece of straight pipe in its place, crimped the end a bit to create some back-pressure and a little silencing, but even as someone who loves the V8 sound, I have to say it's pretty loud. Like a cross between a quick-firing cannon and a slow-firing machine gun.

Thinking of putting a 2.5" Cherrybomb in there, the standard old-school glasspack.
So, here's the silly question - does it actually provide any silencing?

You might find the explanations in this article helpful: http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Muffler-Selection.htm

I was just thinking about this for my TR7.  I'm not sure I can fit much more than a glass pack.

With just those it will still be pretty loud.  If you decide they are too loud, you might check into Spintech's "Cruiser" series.  They are only 2 1/4" thick so can be mounted under the car when bigger mufflers can't.  You do give up the deep mellow sound of the more popular mufflers but if you need the clearance it's not too bad of a trade-off.  I have them on my car and then added 10" glasspacks as resonators near the tips - with just the spintechs I was setting off alarms in the parking garage at work.

Stick a coffee can on it. Add 50 more horsepower. If you already have a "B" cam it'd be worth 500 HP!

True racing secret Jim. Caffine DOES wake-up the horsepower, but nothing stings, like a Bee cam !  Too B, or not to B ? roverman, stuck at A.
