Too many cars, not enough time. Sound familiar ? I have a 74' MGB roadster, rust free CA car,(yes it IS possible). Body is ready for final paint,maroon std. I have the orig. 1,800 eng, rebuit with hotter/steel cam.It has orig 4 speed OD. Do I sell as a painted runner, with listed parts, or as is,a prime car for a swap ? All skilled/caring advice, is appreciated. Thanks, roverman.
Is it early '74 or '74-1/2? It makes a difference.

I would advertise as both to attract a larger group, both sides of the isle.
Uhm...chrome bumper ? Vin # or reg. ? Alloy hood option. Was going to mount JH. gas tank between wheel wells,(surface mount hinges required). I don't see the merrit of a V8 swap, only to sell car.Was going for a retro look, Porsche Speedster seats/etc. Maybe, best bang, for my labor/$, is restored stocker ? Cheers, roverman.
From my perspective Art, I would normally part the car out.
A good overdrive trans is worth more than the complete vehicle up here.
A decent clean shell, with or without a regi. is also fairly valuable.
The regi. with # plates is also a sought after item. ( not that I would do that ;) )
All the other parts, as long as they still hold smoke, are pure profit.
On the other hand. You live in California. And as Bill said, 76 and newer cars are less desirable due to their smog status.
So that would lead me to think that your car complete, (or at least the regi.) would be worth more there than anywhere else.
Check out craigs list to see what might make the most sense.
Remember that your time is worth something so be sure to factor that in.
