Just found out my tranny is a NWC Camaro T5 #13-52-072 - have been using ATF, not gear oil. Tremec work manual says ATF in all T-5's, several web sites say 85-90W gear oil. What do you guys say? Any flushing if I change?

Not sure I agree, though. The first thee forward gears run on needle bearings on the World Class T-5. Non WC does not. It may have come from the factory with 70wt gear oil. May be okay with either, IDK.

I still think gear oil goes in the NWC T-5s & only the World Class T-5s came with ATF.
I've been driving mine (NWC T-5) for two years with gear oil. It came from an "83 Camaro that I once owned and it had gear oil in the tranny when I bought it. If I remember correctly the NWC T-5 has bronze synchronizers and ATF will eventually damage the tranny.

It is because there is no bearing under each gear and the bronze synchro rings that the NWC T-5 use the heavier Dextron II. Since Dextron II is no longer available the engineers at TREMEC now recommend using straight 50w gear oil. The lighter Dextron III weight can be used but may effect shifting and wear. Torque rating for the 2.95:1 NWC T-5 was 265ft/lbs}
I tend to agree with Carl & Phill. The "Mustang" boys made this point when they discussed the type of fluid for T-5's. The early NWC can run the 70W, but later T-5'd require ATF. GM recommend Syncromesh (their dealer brandk) and Penzoil makes it also. I run Mobil Synthetic ATF in my T-5Z as recommended by D&D Performance, rebuilder and dealer. The T-5Z has Kelvar blocker rings and do not require heavier fluid. Just my 2 cents.
I have the same NWC tranny, 1352-072, in my conversion. I just had my tranny rebuilt about 2500 miles ago, and I use gear oil. Since I have my tranny mounted straight up, not at an 18* angle, I jack up the pass side of the car so that the tranny sits at 18* when I fill it. No issues, shifts smooth. My previous tranny was a NWC and I used gear oil in that one, too.
