Title: Need an idea
Post by: rficalora on August 26, 2012, 10:46:58 AM
Now that my fan is working right I'm ready to get my A/C going.  Thinking I want to mount the drier under the slam panel but I'll need a sight hole so I can see the sight glass.  Trying to think of something I can use to finish off the hole.  What I have in my head is something like this - something I can paint body color or polish...  have Googled but haven't found anything that'll work & look good.  Inside of the hole will need to be about 1" diameter...

The instructions on my Nostalgic Air system said not to be concerned with the sight glass on the dryer.

I mounted my drier to the side of the condensor as plumbed by Nostalgic....under the slam panel.

Rob,

I don't know if this will help, but Vintage Air has a horizontal dryer that you might want to take a look at:  http://www.vintageair.com/2012catalog/2012%20VintageAir%20Catalog%20Final%20WEB%20%28Page%2073%29.pdf

Ted mounted one in the hole on the right-rear of my engine compartment and put a machined aluminum plate over the hole to hide it. The plate was machined to match the plate covering the evaporator unit.

The hoses run inside the fender well under a metal cover along with the frontend wiring:

Question! For those of you who have cut notches the panel in front of the radiator for ac or radiator room, how did you deal with the hood latch mechanism?

I'm using 2 of these (Quik-Latch)  just outside of the stainless accent strip on an MGC hood. Also strengthened and slightly lengthened the hook of the stock safety hook.

How about using a camera lens UV filter?  You can use a step up or down ring as a backing nut on the other side of the panel if there is enough thread.
