Title: FS: 3.07 Clive Wheatley Crown Wheel and Pinion

I have decided to go a different route with my rear axle so I am selling the 3.07 ring and pinion I bought for my project. It is brand new, never installed and currently taking up room on my shelf.

$400 plus shipping.

Seems to be lots of interest in it but no cash so I am going to put it on evilBay next week if I can find the time.

Chris, is this the correct fit for a standard MGB tube type axle? Any machining needed to the carrier to install? It's a little taller than I wanted, but it would be cheaper than the modification I was considering to my existing axle. If the answers to those questions is yes then I'll take it. Is that Canadian dollars or US? I haven't checked the conversion rate lately, I could be in for a surpirse. ;-)

Wow, suddenly there's a lot of interest. Two other people have already inquired about the gears this morning but if they fall through I'll offer it to Bill first and then to you Romney.

Bill, yes it is for a standard MGB axle. There is machining required to make it fit. From what Simon Austin told me I think it is fairly expensive (I can't remember what he paid) but it also might depend on who does the machining. It would be good to inquire about costs before going down this road.

Bill, that's Canadian dollars. It is essentially on-par with the US or slightly little less than the US dollar.

As Chris mentioned, machining the carrier is required to fit the 3.07 gears to a stock MGB diff.  I had a local shop do it and the cost was $1274.00.

This included a new wheel bearing, shims, and various bits.  The labour was 7.5 hours.

It's worth it in the end but not a cheap undertaking.

I had my carrier machined by Babbit  Bearing in Columbus, Ohio about 4 years ago (others on this forum have also used Babbit) I had some welding done also on the rebound strap post. Cost was around $300.

If a person had their own Lathe/Mill you would just take off .215 where the ring gear bolts on the carrier.
