As I recall, Jerry Richards races with one and swears by it. Personally, I'm skeptical of any gearbox operated via multiple external linkages but I understand there are some old timers out there who specialize in setting up Muncie boxes for super-quick gear changes.

I use a muncie m-20 in mine, I love it though Ive used more than a few in other projects over the years. I have an old MrGasket vertical Gate on mine at the moment and it shifts super fast with the straight pattern, faster than your foot! I think most aftermarket quality shifters work well too.
I suspect being "super close" on ratios,(2.20/1), will help reduce shift times, as will 71/4" double disk clutches. I'm considering a Hurst Competition+ shifter with straight , 7" tall lever. We shall see. Cheers, roverman.

One thing I gotta mention is that the shifter on mine sticks out the side of the tunnel instead of on top like the original shifter. It makes it a bit tight in front of the seat side.............

Bill Warner's Group 44 TR8 is running a nascar 4 speed that replaced the Rover LT77 that had close ratio gears.....no issue with cost or replacement parts....Nascar stuff is every where!

Hurst makes a lot of different sticks. On my 1970 442, for example, the stick has a dogleg that puts it about centered above the tailhousing. Yes, the shifter mechanism is still on the side, but the stick is offset from there. This was done to fit the factory console.
Thats a good point Joe! On mine, since my shifter is a V-gate instead of an H, it doesnt need side to side movement. If It was an H pattern without an offset shifter, I think there could even be some interference with the shifter and the steering wheel. I went to a 14" wheel and my shifter comes close to it.
