Title: Oil filter adapter
Post by: don-ho on June 14, 2011, 04:39:47 PM
Hello all,
Can someone please tell me which oil filter housing adapter for a 302 has the smallest profile. The transdapt adapter boasts a clearence of 1 3/8 inches. Is this the smallest? Also has anyone had good or bad luck with this one, or any recommendations for any others? Thanks in advance for any and all advice....Don Prince

I'm using the Transdapt & believe several others use the same one.  But, I think I heard somewhere that the Canton is a little smaller.  If I recall Ted Lathrop even machines it even a little thinner

The Canton (same as Ford Racing) is thicker but, as Rob says, Ted (at Fast Cars Inc) supplies a machined down version that is the same thickness as the Transdapt - Ted's is the adapter that I use.
The problem with the Trasdapt is that the ports cannot be indexed satisfactorily on tightening as it is a screw on unit like a typical oil filter, whereas the Canton style has a central bolt that allows indexing through 360 degrees.
In either case, a 3/8" frame rework will be necessary to gain sufficient clearance.
