hi I am converting a Tr7 to Rover v8 ,,does anyone know if the engine mount brackets on an SD1 engine are the same as tr8 brackets and do I need a sd1 sump,,

No and yes.
However, if you are converting your sub-frame yourself, you can accommodate the SD1 engine brackets.
Check out the TR8 section on www.forum.triumphtr7.com and do a search to find pics from others who've some it.

You will need the SD1/TR8 sump, unless you are prepared to modify 4.0 sump. The deep portion of the SD1 is smaller in order to clear the subframe. You can modified the 4.0 steel sumps. It requires a little cutting and some welding, but it's not difficult. The SD1 and TR8 engine mounts are different, as are the cradle attachments to the subframe. The TR8 pieces center the engine mounts over the subframe, while the SD1 pieces move the engine either fore or aft(can't remember which). If you are going to modify your TR7 subframe, you could probably get the SD1 engine mounts to work. I recently made up a subframe that used engine mounts from a Buick V6 from the junk yard, bent roll cage tubing, and steel plates. Took about 4 hours to fabricate including making a jig to ensure the engine was located properly.
Hi , am coverting a TR7 to a V8 with a Rover SD1 V8 doner car . Does anyone know if the engine mounts should be mounted to the front or the rear of the TR8 subframe.
The original location is behind the mount tab on the TR8 subframe.
If you are trying to use a TR7 shifter platform on the Rover five speed, you might be better off having the engine mount tabs in front of the subframe tabs. That way the back of the shifter platform will come closer to actually fitting inside the stock opening in the tranny tunnel. The TR8 shifter and platform are slightly shorter than the TR7 unit. In order to install the tranny mount bracket, you will probably have to redrill the holes in the floor for the captive bolts under the carpet. They just push up into the cockpit of the car. Remeber the SD1 engine brackets are different than the TR8 ones and won't work on a TR8 subframe. You either need TR8 subframe and TR8 engine brackets, or you are in for some serious fabricating.
