Title: Historic, Authentic, and So Very Radical!
Post by: Moderator on October 13, 2010, 12:58:38 PM

Al Pease drives a victory lap after the sports car race that supplemented the 1964 Players 200, at Mosport.
He repeated that victory in 1966, defeating George Eaton in a Shelby Cobra and Horst Kroll in a Porsche 904 GTS.
Pease also won back-to-back Canadian National Championships and was voted "Driver of the Year."

Frankly, many enthusiasts have a rather narrow view of what MGB racecars looked like in the mid '60s.
"Factory" endurance racers were intended to look nearly stock. This article shows the other side of the coin:
Al Pease's Supercharged 1962 MGB: the most successful MG in Canadian racing history
(The article describes the car's history, including its extensive and meticulous restoration by Mike Adams.)

This is just such a totally cool car. It's nearly 50 years old and could still put the hurt on a lot of newer cars. It was built in an era that was more concerned about performance than money, note the miss matched rims. Image mattered but was not the primary driving force. I might be romanticizing some but I remember more innovation and integrity in the racing of yore. You put your guts on the asphalt and your soul in the car.The new stuff is fun and fast and I love it, but I tire of the "formula". I guess this car just stokes the old fire and makes you want to do it all over again.

Cheers
Fred

It is interesting how they have gone to town on reducing the weight of some parts but not others. Was this a function of the class rules it raced under or is there hidden weight reduction. Perhaps the shell took a trip through an acid bath!

MG racers,

Accolades to Mike Adams for racing & restoring and Curtis Jacobson for presenting this historic MGB to all sports car racing fans ! The efforts of the many years of British Morris Oxford Garage racers are finally and firmly established by the Al Pease Super B.

do keep them on the track

What can I say except thanks, Curtis does a great job when presenting a race car. I do intend to keep racing the Super B as long as I can ... already started plans for next season, first race at Infineon in April. The Super B has had many interesting scraps since the resurrection, nothing like the back in the day battles when Al Pease campaigned the car, but fun none the less.
