Okay, here are some text to pics. Hope to finished next year as a Cobra 289 Sebring race car clone (if you take a look from 10 yards away):
Nobody knows for sure but I guess the age for chassis and body something between 28 and 32 years old. Former MGB running gear sold :-) and bespoke front and TVR Griffith 500 rear weldet in incl. tunnel tubes for stiffness. Front got Jaguar XJ6 hubs, vented discs and Wilwood Dynalite Calipers, MBG Steering. Rear TVR Griffith 500 hubs, vented Ford Sierra Cosworth discs and calipers, Cosworth diff and drive shafts. Rover 3.5 bored to 3.6 liters, omega forged pistons 10:1 comp ratio, balanced and tuffrided bottom end, Holbay 111 camshaft, small block chevy solid lifters, steel push rods adjustable steel rockers, twin valve springs, std. heads, main bearing stud conversion, shot peened H section rods, polished and drained valley, external oil feed to lubricate dizzy/cam drive gears, electronic ignition, quad 45 dellorto DRLAcarbs. This is mated up to a 5 speed LT77 gearbox. Body needs many modifications like flared rear fenders etc.

Lots of GRP work, but some metal too. Made some brackets for the TVR rear anti rollbar and used a Triumph GT6 front bar for the front, that was the best option to lengthen it. Had to fabricate some brackets for the front bar too. I did not want to weld them to the bottom wishbones.

The old BRA has very flimsy edges at the bonnet and boot and they are wrong too. They are just flat not 90° downways. So I used aluminium angles to get the right look and to make it stiff. First sanded down the gelcoat and riveted the slotted alloy incl. resin. Next step will be to laminate it.

Great craftsmanship on the latches and all the other details. Are those stainless pieces? Might have to "borrow" your design for my next project, really like the look.

The GRP work kill me. Habe added many many layers GRP to the underside edge. Will get the curved body shape of the originals. So after adding it I have to reshape it by sanding most of it off. Also made a tow hook from M16 nuts and threaded rod to weld it to the chassis.

The old BRA body is underneath straight with a small lipp at the side to cover the outrigger steel frame a bit. Additional there is a sill along the side :-(. To get the body more (original) curved from front to end and underneath I had to laminate many many layers of GRP and had to reshape it.

To get the right look I need the front fender spats also. I found 2 different seller in the US. One is so expensive, I asked 3 times for the price!! The other one was very helpful and the price was okay. Of course additional shipping, duty, tax :-(.
Very disappointing is: they do not fit at all. The radius is totally different and the angle to the body also and the two sides are different too. Result will be: do everything yourself or cut the body and cut the spats and reshape everything again :-(

Update: DIY!
Used some stripes of Gaffer or Duck tape to save the body and laminated 2 layer GRP on it. The Duck tape will not glue on the inside of the GRP :-) Made a rough mould of cardboard and used construction foam to fill it. Then I cut and filed the form to give it the right look and dimensions. Glued some tape on the PU foam to protect it from the next 2 layers GRP. Sorry, no pics from the finished spats

Old Rover valve covers, 2 vintage Offenhauser breathers and 2 vintage Offenhauser engine plates, sandpaper, wrinkle paint, aluminium polish and muscle grease.

I thought 2010 and 2011 and so on. I have to get finished this year, definitly 2014. I have just 6-8 hours per week time and that is Tuesday night, often just with only thinking not making anything :-(
Don't be too hard on yourself, it's hard to get anything done in the wintertime. But look at it this way, the days are already getting longer and before long it will start to get warm again. When it does that old urge to drive will come back.

Jim is right don't be so hard on yourself. In doing my engine swap I found that the design of some of the parts took longer than the actual fabrication of the part. In your case you have a fibreglass replica that requires lots of design and fabrication that us Triumph and MG guys don't have to deal with. I am sure that you get a lot of satisfaction designing and making the parts. When I look at all the parts I made to convert my TR6 to a Gm 3400 V6 I get a great sense of satisfaction. Getting to drive the car is a reward for all the hard work that you put into the car but I am sure that you will always be tinkering with it as the tinkering part has it's own reward. Just ask Jim about the upgrades he is doing on his MGB. As some guys say the car is never really done!

That said, and I can understand your motivation for choosing the Cobra as a starting point for the body shell, it's still a shame to give away any of your well earned congratulations to a fiberglass copy a Shelby creation.
That car completely deserves an original body to match the original thought and engineering and expertise that has gone into it. It would be SUCH a shame to see it deminished by casual comments regarding it being another Cobra clone when it's just SO unique and beautiful under the skin.
Just my thoughts. I think that your wonderful creation deserves a wonderful skin as well.

Michael it looks real good.
This car is going to be quite light with a fibre-glass body, aluminum paneling, tube frame, and a Rover v8 engine. I bet that it will tip the scales around 1500 pounds. I watched Jay Leno's garage the other day and he was showing off his Lotus sportscar that just came out of the shop. That car weighed a mere 1350 pounds with all the fluids. Everything in his car was built to be ultra light. I think your car will be fairly light also.

If you want to use an vintage SUN tachometer like used in CSX 2128 and a few others you can find these tachs on ebay USA. You have the choice between many 50th to 70th tachs. It will be a bit difficult to find a "Greenline" version and even more difficult to find the 8000 max revs version not the 8500 as I wrongly bought first :( . Then it gives the R.P.M. "Thousands" and "Hundreds" version. 2128 had the Hundreds version. What these old tachs all have in common: they used a transmitterbox with batteries :-(. 50 years old batteries don't work. You can find for insane money working transmitter boxes or electronic circuit boards which can be installed to get the transmitter box working. Well, not for me the electrical bungler. The option is to buy a repro Sun tach that looks okay except the dial. It's black/white. I dissembled both tachs (the old one was easy with a few screws, the Repro one was difficult. I hah to bead the chromed front frame from the body and had to bend the flange very carefully back after assembling the cutted and reshaped vintage scale. But it worked. May I glue on the black knob in front of the tach too.

To made the change from windshield frame (where the mirror is to located to) to single screen and vice versa easier I made a back plate for the escutcheon cover plate. If I use the single screen I have just to remove the escutcheon plate and bolt on the "mirror plate" which holds the Raydyot replica mirrors already :-)

It looks really good and I am sure it runs as good as it looks.
All that painstaking aluminum sheet metal fabrication has paid off.

Congratulations! This has been such a very cool project from start to end.
Of course it's always suspicious when someone around here says "finished". I hope you enjoy this awesome car just the way it is for awhile, but I'm keen to see future refinements too.
