Title: 3.9 to3.0
Post by: Citron on May 19, 2010, 01:27:11 PM
I changed from the stock rear end to a narrowed ford 8 in with a 3.0 gear.
Car: 70 BGT
Engine: 3.1 with a carb
Trans: 700R4
Tires: 205/75/14
Car has AC

I ran the 0 to 60 times with a G-Tech meter on the same road both times.  Two run South and two runs North.
First two 0 to 60 runs are South: Last two are North

3.9 gear:
0 to 60 :  7.66: 7.42: 8.01: 8.00:  AVE:7.77
Speed at 2666.66 rpm was 71 to 72 mph(GPS)

3.0 gear:
0 to 60: 8.3: 8.35: 8.50:  8.55   AVE:8.43
70 MPH is 1900 again with the GPS.

I used .66 more seconds to reach 60.
I don't consider that a bad trade for the redueces noise and heat with the 3.0.

Thats what happens when you live in the Northern hemishere, the last 2 runs, going North, are uphill.

It does seem like the road was down hill to the south and up to the north, though you wouldn't know it to look at it.

Steve, it is geographic.  Over here is middle Tn, the land slopes to the west,  Mississippi River.  I do not know why the Tornadoes all come from the southwest, guess they don't like to travel directly uphill.
Have a Safe Trip and see you in Indy!
