I need a new floor jack. I'm tired of driving my MG onto 2X8s to get jack under it. Then, I still have limited jacking due to the spoiler in the front & gas tank in the rear. I've considered the Pelican jack in the past, but it's a bit expensive. Plus, I have air. Why not go pneumatic?
So, anyone have a line on pneumatic low-profile floor jacks?
Carl, I use two aluminum racing jacks for my MG's There low enough to place them on the jacking points on each side.
I also used them on the race car when I was racing. They work great.

Carl! I know just what you're going through I just finished the suspension my RB and our jack is too low.
Luckily 2x4's or another set of hands to lift up the front seem to work.
Most my friends are into absurdly low VWs(how unforunate! :P ) and they use 2x4's + low profile floor jacks like the one

I've seen worse for $250. That looks very similar to the Pelican jack, but about $150 cheaper. I really need it 'cause I plan to drag the exhaust pipe real soon. ;)

I do not lift mine fron the crossmember, I use two jacks on the jacking points.
The last issue of Popular Science magazine had a HF aluminum jack on sale for $59.99 which is the best price I've seen on one yet. I expect to get one and put it in my trunk. Sale ends sometime this summer.

I put jack points inside my rockers to lift one side at a time. You just slide the jack into the 3 sided box. In the second picture you can see how the cage ties in above the jack point. There is 2" square tubing inside the rockers that help carry the load and also ties the main and front hoops together. Stole the idea from the Nascar guys. There was just no way to get the jack under the front air dam or past the fuel cell in the back.

The jack that you posted may not go under the cross member when I get done. The back of my cross member is a smidge over 3 1/2" from hte ground now.
Do you have any pics of the ramps you made for your car?
BTW, Jim Watson has been fully assimilated. He went to Mississippi this weekend to pick up a '79 MGB for his SD1 drivetrain. Of course, I'm sure you already knew that.
Yeap, the V6 is balance. I forgot you have a V8. In that case jack one side at the time.

I've also been playing with the idea of making an adapter to get my floor jack low enough. I haven't really looked into it in detail, but the sketch below shows what I'm thinking. The tube welded onto the bent metal piece would slip into the hole where the jack pad fits, replacing it. The front of the car weighs around 1/2 ton, so with a 2 ton jack and some heavy metal, it should lift the car OK.

Jim called yesterday, and he has the car home. I think he'll have the V8 in and running in time to make the V8 meet this year. We drove my car to Michigan last year, taking turns driving, and he was hooked! He kept the speed down except for a few times when we were passed by Camaros or Mustangs. It was difficult for him, but he managed to control the urge to race, though.

HF has the same 2 ton low profile jack in aluminum also. I had it with me at BV8 2013 and Ken H used it. It is fairly light. The jack that Carl has lifts from 2 5/8", the aluminum one lifts from 3 1/4", and 42.6 lbs.

I'm having this problem right now and have to use my Kia jack to get it up high enough to get my standard floor jack under it. I'm sold, that will be my next purchase. Well....maybe after a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread.

Yea it isn't as low as the low profile you have Carl, but it is low to get under the car at the jacking point.
I guess they couldn't make the aluminum one as low as the steel one. Maybe it wouldn't be strong enough.

I have that jack also, but it is smaller but looks the same. The long bar wheel at one end gave it away. That jack is small enough to fit in the boot area or trunk. It is real low to the ground but will not go very high up.

Just got back from HF store and I'm the proud new father of a 61253 low profile 3 ton jack. 29" not counting the tail and weighted in at 71.7 pounds; cigars would have been available but I've already smoked them...Sorry. Instead of 81.00 it was 84.00 but I'm not going to scream about that. They said the 68050 2 ton version has been discontinued and they couldn't order it for me, the 61253 3 ton is it's replacement. You get a little less height, 20" rather than 23" and the min height is 2-3/4 rather than 2-5/8 but still enough for me. My GT is a little low but it's more than 3". I think I liked the 2 ton better but this one is fine.
