Went by the body shop to check progress... It's slowed a bit but they're still making progress & expect it'll be done in about 2 weeks if the body/paint man doesn't get pulled onto something else.
Lizard skin underneath with semi-gloss black over that. Also in the cockpit & will go trunk and under the hood (but body color over it there) too. What do you think of the way they did the rear wheel wells? I think they did the inner 1/2's body color because that's what you're likely to see once on the ground, but it looks odd to me. Seems like it should be either all body color or all black...

Engine bay has also been painted. They also have to correct the frame rails. The sides of the frame rails that are visible from the engine bay aren't supposed to have the lizard skin on them & are supposed to be body color. The guy I've been dealing with was quick to let me know they were going to correct that.

the wheel wells are cute, but unnecessary labor & paint. Maybe flared fenders are different. With MGBs being low to the ground & fender wells full of tire, I haven't really seen any of the inner fender well. I'd tell 'em to paint it black. It's gonna get dirty. How you gonna clean it?
It will look great when they get the red on the top side!
Rob, I like the idea of only painting the inner half of the fender wells, the outer side won't be seen anyway and having the body color on the inside will really make your tire and wheel combination pop. It looks strange from this point of view, but once it's on the ground I think it will look a whole lot better to you. Nice color by the way, this one will certainly turn some heads at Indy.
That color really pops, Rob. Going to look great! I agree with Bill about the wheel wells. It will give you the protection where the stones hit while leaving the show car look.
Just a matter of opinion, but why not paint the whole body chassis colour - isn't that the way most cars come from the factory?
Graham, are you questioning why not paint the bottom & the wheel wells fully body color? I think it's a matter of material cost. I shopped around to keep the painting costs down & this shop was one of the lower ones. I'd have preferred to have the bottom body color, but the black is a color they buy in bulk. It's a single stage where the body color is a base/clear so more material & more labor. The less of it they use the lower the paint job costs.
I can understand the Economics, Rob....it plagues us all!
Regardless, it will be a real head turner in Indy.
Rob, as long as the rear is painted that's all that most people will be seeing anyway! LOL

2) Rob - that looks similar to candy apple red in pics - especially engine bay - "sweet"!
Its actually a GM burgandy color -- called Merlot Jewel Metalic. Found on lots of GM's -- everything from Saturn Sky's to Suburbans to trucks (even Hummers as of this year according to the paint shop). I saw it on a saturn in my neighborhood & then saw this Sky on a Sky/Solstace web site. I pm'd the guy on that site and he sent me the paint code.
The camaro in the background of the 1st & last pic above is a red similar to tartan red; you can tell the difference in those shots. It has a little more red than the mg burgandy & has some pearl in it which does give it a bit of shimmer.

Other choice was a deep blue color but I liked the burgandy better.
Ahhh, jealousy! It's going to look amazing. The wheelwells tell me one thing - you found a shop that is willing to go the extra little bit for their customer. If they did that on their own I'm impressed.

They're getting close. A few areas to fix & then it just needs to be color sanded & buffed out. I"m hoping to get it back this weekend; worst case the following weekend. All depends on other work they have going.
