Thiis message is for V8 conversions with 4-barrel carbs. My original SU fuel pump died and I replaced it temporarily with an electric Edelbrock fuel pump. Does this pump runs all the time even when the fuel bowls in the carb are full ?
Do you need a return line for the fuel, like used on FI systems?

What is the Model #, Werner?

My good ol Carter pump laid down on me.  I installed a red Edelbrock #17301 in its place.  Only thing I could get on short notice.  I use a Holley FP regulator with it.  No return line.

Lots of different ways to go on that. Most people use a low pressure pump that does not need a return line. Some run constantly, some don't. Depends on how it's constructed. I think the Edelbrock is a rotorvane pump so it has to run all the time. Most Holley pumps are the same. The OEM pump and many of the aftermarket pumps are spring loaded piston/solenoid pumps. Those 'tick' and stop running when pressure is built up.
