Troubleshooting Crankshaft Sensor Issues in My V8 Engine

I'm in the midst of a V8 engine build for my classic car restoration project and have encountered some problems with the crankshaft sensor. I'm hoping to get some insights and advice from the community here.

Here are the details of my setup:

Engine: Chevrolet 350 V8
Crankshaft Sensor: Standard Motor Products PC22
ECU: Megasquirt MS3Pro
I've been experiencing intermittent starting problems and occasional stalling while driving. Upon inspection, I noticed that the crankshaft sensor readings are erratic, and sometimes the engine refuses to start unless I adjust the sensor connection.

Here's what I've done so far:

Checked the Wiring: Ensured that all connections are secure and there are no visible signs of damage.
Cleaned the Sensor: Removed any dirt or debris that might interfere with the sensor's operation.
Replaced the Sensor: Swapped out the crankshaft sensor with a new one, but the problem persists.
I'm beginning to wonder if there might be an issue with the sensor's compatibility with my ECU, or if there's something else I might be missing.

Has anyone here faced similar issues with their crankshaft sensors? What steps did you take to troubleshoot and resolve them? Also, are there any specific brands or models of crankshaft sensors that you've found to be more reliable?

External trigger wheel?
Good idea to use shielded twisted pair for the wiring and ground the shield at one end only, usually the ECM end.

How are you driving that sensor?
Any pictures of your setup.
That PC22 looks like a high resolution optical sensor. It probably has more resolution than the MS3 can deal with. Especially if its spinning at crank speeds. Originally it was meant for camshaft drive.
