The cause? Wrong spark plugs had inadvertently been installed, subsequently loosened, and fell out. It's been diagnosed and permanently fixed. Always use the recommended plugs in specialty or aftermarket heads, they often are not the same as stock. Also, where cast iron heads often use a tapered seat, aluminum heads usually use a flat seat and sealing washer. The reach was short as well, requiring the threads to be chased.

Thanks to Steve DeGroat and Dan Blackwood for discovering the issue. A little research and the cause was clear.

There is a big car event scheduled for that Hotel (The Greenbrier) in a couple months, I'm sure Dan and the WVBCC have all the details.

Glad you guys enjoyed your ride ;) We also discovered right after that how restrictive the Star Wars air cleaner really is, and punched a bunch of big holes in the bottom of it (can't see 'em that way) to let more air in. Max was impressed by the test drive with the air cleaner off.

The West Virginia British Car Club has a block of rooms at the Quality Inn in Lewisburg, site of last summer's BV8 meet, at a rate of $85. Ask for the WVBCC rate when making a reservation.

Here is the newspaper article thread for BV8 2017 in West Virginia.

I've updated The Cars of BritishV8 2017 with about a dozen great new photos from Roger and Fiona Haber!

There are still two cars I haven't been able to match up to meet participants.

Please post here if you know who owns these - or even if you even have clues!

It would still be nice to have the recap posted that was written for this event.

Where is that? Robert Milks wrote it last year, right?

It was already posted on someone else's website. Therefore, I won't repost it here.

No, it was printed in the MG Driver of the North American MGB Register. This is information NOT available in electronic format.

[ EDIT - The issue of copyright was addressed when this issue first came up....I contacted Robert Rushing, editor of the MG Driver; he (nor Robert Milks, the author) has no problem with the article that appeared in the NAMGBR publication being reprinted here on BritishV8.org with proper credits being given. ]

Most of the subscribers to BritishV8.org are NOT members of NAMGBR....and would NOT have had the opportunity to have read this brilliant article written by Robert Milks.

I believe the article written by Robert had also been reworded to be more inclusive of other British marques when he submitted it to you as the MG Driver is obviously geared towards the MG owner.

The verbal historical accounting of BritishV8 2017....... intended to be recorded here on BritishV8.org for the continuity reporting of our events.....is now lost because of your decision.

Pictures alone to not cut the muster.

I am disappointed in this decision.....and I know that I am not alone.

Curtis, I consider you a friend, but I agree with Rick on this one. No reason not to reach out to Robert and the MG Driver to get the permission in writing, if someone hasn't already provided that, and then republish Robert's article with credits. I'd ask that you reconsider.

As an organizer of the event in question I would also ask for reconsideration.
The MG-V8 Newsletter and BritishV8 has a long history of reprinting articles which appeared in printed publications. Is this really any different? If so then how?

I can understand a modicum of professional jealousy since the article was not submitted here first, but I for one have never seen the article. I would like to read it. But I am not a member of Namburger. Just never have gotten around to subscribing. I certainly am not alone in that.

But the bottom line is, if Robert's article is not reprinted here the only way for this site to ever have a report on the event is for someone else to write it up, one year or more after the fact. That just isn't going to happen. So the only BritishV8 event ever held in the mountains of West Virginia will go unreported.

As the organizers (and I'm sure Dan agrees with me on this) I find that very troubling. It may not keep us from ever organizing another event there but it certainly puts a chill on things.

MGBGT?

Hi Curtis, I agree with Rick. Are there details we don't know that would prevent obtaining the specific permissions needed? There's nothing to lose by requesting to do same. The worst that could happen is they say no.

Gents,
Sorry about the delay in responding to the dialog.
First, because the MG Driver is a publication of NAMGBR, the article I wrote for it was focused on the MG attendees and for an MGB audience. I never meant it to be posted here, although I have no objection to that.

Second, because a link to the letter from the Bill Michael of the West Virginia BCC had been posted and I thought that it captured the essence of the meet (rather than all of the details), I wasn't inclined to write a separate article. I collected photos, as many others have done, and sent them to Curtis, along with the newspaper article and a bunch of photos from Bill Michael. How all this was to be presented was for Curtis to create, although I thought, and still do, that Bill's letter would be sufficient text.

Better communications between Curtis and myself may have avoided the need for this thread at this late date. The main point I'd like to promote is that we not repeat these problems at next week's meet. Creating a report after the fact, without a plan for collecting information and photos of multiple activities and driving routes is pretty hard to accomplish. So if someone would step up ahead of time, that would be best.

Apologies to all who thought I had written a report text just for this website.

I was under the impression that you rewrote YOUR original article to include a broader range of British cars for THIS website.

In any case.....either article should be posted here with proper credits.

We need the continuity....communication.....and camaraderie.

Rick,
Nope. I thought Bill's letter to the V8 group was on-point, if it were located with the program and photos. If anyone wants to submit more text, just have a couple of beers and it will all come back...
Bill also had many great photos of the picnic at Hawk's Nest, two samples of which are attached. You have a copy of all the photos I sent in to Curtis, if you wish to suggest more to be uploaded.
