Buick 300 heads porting and valve guide

Hello,

I removed valve guides from my pair of aluminium Buick 300 heads to port them.

Inlet port before :

Inlet port after :


Exhaust port before :

Exhaust port after :


I am looking for Bronze valve guide. There is an compagny who sells them ? Any recommandation ?

There is one thing you may have an issue with. The bore of the guides may not be concentric with the OD because of the production process where the seat pocket and the guide were machined at the same time but not indexed on the guide OD. Better check that right away as corrections may need to be made.

Dale Spooner (Motion Machine in Danville, VA) has the bronze inserts.

That was a problem on mine. I also needed to have custom sleeves pressed in through the guides for the thinner 7mm stems I got.

Did you break through to the bolt hole on the exhaust port? Does that matter? I mean do you have to have that welded shut or just plug it with the bolt and be done with it?

Thank for your help.

During porting we have gone into the thread for exhaust manifold bolt. The problem is the thread in head is very deep. If you look an standard port you can see an little extension in casting for the deep thread.
But it is not an problem as we will use exhaust manifold studs. An small aluminium insert has been done to obstruct inside the thread the small hole at the end of the thread.
