Still waiting on you guys to let me know of different events around the country where we should display the Roadmaster. Need the event name, dates and location. We'll try to put together a rotation of the car so that we can get the maximum exposure for the project and allow the different drivers a reasonable amount of time with the car as well.
Here's a list I threw together as a sample with some events listed in Hemmings.

If any of these events are close to you and you'd like to take the car to any of them let us know. As you can see we need to have some schedule in place before April at least to catch some of the early spring events.
Send event information to bkyoung@kc.rr.com
Thanks

How about taking it to one of the National Street Rod shows?  They are now open to cars up to 1982.

Here's the schedule:

April 13-15: Oklahoma City, OK
April 27-29: Bakersfield, CA
May 4-6: Knoxville, TN (our local British car Gathering is May 6-11 in Townsend)
May 25-27: Springfield, MO
June 1-3: York, PA
June 22-24: Pueblo, CO
August 2-5: Louisville, KY
September 14-16: Kalamazoo, MI
September 21-23: Burlington, VT
October 5-7: Sacramento, CA
October 12-14: Tampa, Florida

Or even better yet, why not take it on the Hot Rod Power Tour?  Wouldn't it be great, and get us a lot of publicity, if a bunch of us could make the Power Tour as a group along with the Roadmaster?  Here's the tenative schedule:

Saturday June 2, 2012 -  Detroit, MIchigan
Sunday June 3, 2012 -  Muskegon, Michigan (205 mi)
Monday June 4, 2012 -  Champaign, Illinois (285 mi)
Tuesday June 5, 2012 -  venue is yet To Be Announced
Wednesday June 6, 2012 -  venue is yet To Be Announced
Thursday June 7, 2012 -  Stillwater, Oklahoma (650 mi)
Friday June 8, 2012 -  Arlington, Texas (268 mi)
Saturday June 9, 2012 -  Long Haul Photo and awards

If none of us can make the whole tour, we could join up and drop of at various locations and swap out Roadmaster drivers. That way, the Roadmaster could make the entire tour. We would surely get a LOT of press with that (and have a great time to boot)

Hot Rod Power Tour.  Awesome idea, Dan!

Bill Young

That's the idea Dan, now we need guys to step up and select a show they'd take the car to if they had it at the time. From that we can build a rotation for the car to get the maximum exposure for the project and also allow those who have contributed so much time to drive it and enjoy the fruits of their labors. If the car was in the KC area next September I'd see that it made the KC All British, and either the Brits in the Ozarks or the St. Louis shows if they fall on the same weekend or both if they don't,  then pass the car on to someone else.

As for the Hot Rod Power Tour, looks like June 5th and 6th they'll be in the Missouri area, I could probably do a stint in that case.

If you are willing to share with your Canadian cousins, there is also the annual British Car Day held just outside of Toronto in mid Sept. This coming year it's Sept 16, 2012.  Usually 1500 to 2000 cars for a one day event!

Bill Young

Martin, certainly we're willing to share, but first on the list are the people who have made contributions of both time, parts, and money to the project. Then we'll move out to a wider group. Those people know who they are I'm sure and have been in on the project from the beginning. One other thing to note, where businesses such as Mr. Mike contriubted we should try to take in shows in their business area as well to promote their interests and contributions.
As you can see by the calendar there are way too many events throughout the year at or near the same time to possibly make all of them, we'll have to work on a multiple year schedule I'm sure to get everyone covered. This car is going to be moving around for quite a while to work everyone in.

Hot August Nights(Reno), is huge. Barret Jackson show/auction and John Force shows in Org Co., Ca. are huge. If interested, I can get dates. roverman.

How about the West coast???? I had no idea that the US was that small.  :-)

That puppy should be able Ca. in no time.

Bill Young

Bill, we just need to work out a series of sites where we could exchange drivers in order to get the car out west and then back east again when the time comes. It's not going to be easy to work out a sequence of events that make sense both in miles covered and time spent, but I hope we can come up with a schedule that would take the car from the east coast through the midwest and then on to Colorado, Reno, and Califorinia hitting events all along the route and then back again later in the year. We also would look at more northeren events for the summer months and some southern events for the early spring or late fall time frame. Let's assume we could get the drivers together and do the Power Tour, that puts the car in the Dallas area in mid June, where to from there? Do we have events and volunteers to take the car west at that time or do we head back east, it all depends on those people willing to step up and make the commitment to show the car to the max and deliver it to the next person on the list in time for the next event.

Bill,

Currently, the Roadmaster is occupying about 85 square feet of floor space in Florence, KY. The area of the US is about 100 trillion square feet, plus or minus a few million.  100 trillion divided by 85 is roughly 100 trillion, rounded off to 10 decimal points. To get the Roadmaster to cover the US will require the work of a LOT of volunteers. It'll get from coast to coast only if we can get enough enthusiasts to set up a "Pony Express" type relay team.

I'm sure we have enough enthusiasts do do it, but finding enough at the right place, the right time, and with enough spare time to do it may not be possible.

Bill Young

Dan, let's consider the Power Tour as a sort of test. Who could take the car from Florence to Detroit? We have a few guys in the area around Champagne, IL who might be able to get the car from Muskegon to St. Louis and a couple of guys here in Missouri that could get the car from St. Louis to Oklahoma, now who can finish the trip down to Arlington? Then where would we take the car? We certainly couldn't get much better publicity than to make the entire tour. Lots of miles on the car for the drivers and lots of spectators along the way as well as the magazine coverage. We have a few months to work it all out, I think it's a good place to start if we can.

BlownMGB-V8

Bill, I can do the GS Nationals at Bowling Green, Knoxville and/or Louisville. I can participate in the Power Tour, either to or from. I see that some of the venues are not yet set. Everything looks really good so far, everyone has really good ideas.

JB

rficalora

I could do the Oklahoma to Arlington leg...  Or meet folks there & accompany the group in my car.

pspeaks

The only big things I have left to do are the exhaust, steering shaft, and remount the radiator, so if the money holds out I should have the GT on the road for Palestine in May and plan to be at Arlington as well.  I would like to have a new paint job by then but that may have to come later.  The Stillwater to Arlington leg may be possible, but my agent controls my schedule so I won't know for sure until the time gets closer.

That's a great response guys, I think we can work it out. If the three stooges or others in that area can cover some of the miles between Michigan and St. Louis we'll have it set.
Now where would the car go after Texas?

mowog1

Yes, I'm sure that the Stooges will be able to help out in some manner. I've not looked at my work schedule yet.

rficalora

Last year Vintage Air coordinated a caravan from San Antonio to LA as part of one of the major events.  Not sure if it was part of the Power Tour or something else.  I'll call for info and find out timing if they're doing it again this year.

Just a thought,

After Texas meet, If the roadmaster needs to go "West"?

Bill Guzman? Camarillo is really not out of my way going back home? I would go the Tehachapi route on the way out to the meet.

Brenda and I will be bringing our enclosed race trailer that is 14' inside from front to back on the nose. I don't know how long the roadmaster is but my TR6 fits with a few inches on both ends??... I wouldn't mind driving my TR6 back west after the meet! Brenda just doesn't want to sit in a TR6 for that long of a hall, so the trailer is coming.

Jim could probably measure the total length of the roadmaster now?

Some photos of the trailer to give  the idea of security.

This trailer can't be accessed from the outside, or cut locks off. On the side door, has 2 dead bolt locks, and one recessed lock.
The back drop door needs to be unbolted from the inside. Also the VW that is inside is a lowered car. Have race ramps for low cars.Use overkill rachet tiedowns all four corners.

Trailer has a 7000lbs max and weights 2300lbs dry. Two axle torsion ride.

That's a great offer Calvin, unfortunately if you're refering to the V8 meet that's in May and the Power Tour won't end in Dallas until June 9. Nice rig you have. Looks like the Roadmaster would fit with room to spare.

Bill Young

Got some infiormation on the Hot Rod Power Tour. Entry fee for the car will be $80 before May 23. We would need to register the car using the name of the first driver of the group. If you would like to tag along on any day's tour with your own car the daily fee is $30 per car. If we can get this together and make sure we have drivers for each leg I'll personally register the car for the event. I think Dan had a great idea here. We need to have it all nailed down before May 23 though.

rficalora

Strike two for Bill Guzman... The Vintage Air tour next year is from San Antonio to Bowling Green KY.  Don't have the date they'll head out but it ends at the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion at Beech Bend Raceway June 14-16 so I'd  guess a few days before that.

Bill Young

Rob that would be an excellent way to get the car back east for other events. There must be some events either along the way or near Bowling Green that we can take in as well. As soon as you get more information on that event please post it and we'll try to line up some drivers for that one as well.

rficalora

Will do Bill.

I know there are plenty of folks in line ahead of me, but if Roadmaster does stay in TX between Palestine & the Vintage Air tour, there'd be plenty of opportunities to show it off.  Off the top of my head I can think of:
  * Saturday nights at a nearby Kroger -- Niftee Fifties (niftee50ees.com) -- typically about 200 cars -
mostly hotrods & muscle cars, but always at least 8-10 Cobras & typically an LBC or two, early restored
VW's, etc. -- atmosphere is very relaxed -- folks mill around & chat
  * Cars & Coffee @ a local shopping center the 1st Saturday of June (every 1st Saturday; a couple hundred
cars with tons of high end cars like Fararri's, Lambo's, etc. + muscle, cars, hot rods, Cobras, tuners, etc.
  * All British & European Car Day (May 22nd in Dallas)
I'm sure Wayne & some others could come up with other events in Dallas, Austin, & San Antonio.

Bill Young

Progress has been made, we now have Bill Davidson and myself who will see the car through from where ever the stop in eastern Missouri is to Stillwater, OK.
Rob, I think you might be on to something for a while and I know you'll enjoy the car and take good care of it, but we need to figure out how to get the car back east. Will your schedule allow that much time?

Bill Young

Hey guys, there are a lot of you out there that contributed to the Roadmaster project either in cash, parts, or labor. Remember, this car isn't going to be trailered, so we need a list of people and events that spans the entire driving season and can move the car logically from place to place, driver to driver without anyone having to go far out of their way. If we can do the Power Tour, we then need a succession of driver's and events that will move the car back east in time for some of the summer events in that part of the country. We want to have the car end up with Jim around October so that he can take it to the Buick GS Nationals and then put it away for the winter. If we can't find a volunteer and schedule to move the car from Dallas then perhaps the Power Tour won't work out, we just can't leave the car there at the end.
And don't think that if you sign up for the Power Tour and only have the car for a day or two that that time would be your only turn with the car, I hope that everyone on the list will have at least a couple of weeks or more with the car as it moves around the country, it's just the format of the Power tour and the distance involved that makes handing the car off every couple of days seem the logical choice.
Basically what we're looking for is guys to step up and say, "If I had the Roadmaster in (name the month) I'd take it to this or these events and could deliver it to someone else at an event midway between those two people.
In my case it would be, if I had the car in late August, early September I would take the car to the KC All British, The Goodguys show that same weekend, the GOBMC show in Carthage, MO, and deliver it to someone at the St. Louis All British later in the month. Now we'd need someone to step up and say they could pick up the car in St. Louis and move it on to someone else hitting some good events along the way.
I'd like to get most of this all finalized before mid May if we can, as the entry time for some of the spring events would be rapidly approaching at that time.
