TR8 now in SCCA GT2 class

Attention British V8 race fans,

It  IS  official, the Triumph TR8 is now listed and eligible to race in the GT2 class - in all regional & national races - within the Sports Car Club of America !  The TR8 can be found in the 2011 GCR (General Competition Rules) alongside the MGB GT V8, and the MG Rover RV8.

In the near future the British V8 racers might form a healthy number of entries at many SCCA regional and national weekend events !

I suppose I should be thrilled, why not ? I could take a somewhat rare GT1 car, that will "always" be too heavy for GT2. Put in a "smaller" motor and go bang fenders in a car possesing many obsolete parts. Otherwise, I might as well get my "thrills" in vintage racing. Pro's, no SCCA games of constantly jacking the rules to benefit, "who is on the rules committee". No destroying of the cars. Maybe a little less ,petty rivalry.  2 cents, roverman.

A sacrilege to enter your Huffaker/ Trans Am GT1 in a SCCA race.  But I would love to see it race against other British V8's in Vintage racing.

Preserve the historic Huffaker TR8.

However, if you had any interest in fielding a MG (B) Rover RV8 in West Coast SCCA GT2 races, I can supply you - at no cost - all the fibreglass RV8 body panels to make up another SCCA GT2 "replica".  I have all the panels and molds needed to make up
everything (but the 2 doors) necessary to recreate another GT2 RV8.  Fibreglass panels are easy to make up when you have the molds.  I have the molds - except for the left & right doors - for they are made of aluminum by my builder.  Hell, I'd even provide you with the doors, too, made up by the same builder.  The aluminum doors, hand made by Mr. Mark Canaday, are awesome.

I have a mind to someday make another chassis - but next time - all tube chassis.  It will not be that hard to accomplish. And, the advantages of a funny car/tube chasis might make the car competitive in class.  That sort of "legal SCCA replica" would deserve a real race engine that you could build for the West Coast racing scene.
